Group accommodation for eight in the Forest of Dean

Eight people, four equal bedrooms and nobody drawing the short straw.

The vaulted living room: two velvet sofas facing the long dining table and kitchen, under roof lights and a cartwheel chandelier.

A house built for eight

The Walnut Barn is an architect-designed barn in Clearwell, on the edge of the Forest of Dean, and it is booked as a whole house for up to eight guests. It suits the groups that are hardest to house well: old friends, two or three families travelling together, a birthday that needs a proper weekend, a riding group.

Everything comes under one booking: the main barn, the games barn across the courtyard, the terraces and the hot tub. Nobody else shares them during your stay, and the house lets the group be together or apart: the long table and the terraces when you want company, a quiet bedroom or the games barn when you don’t.

Four king bedrooms, five bathrooms

Every bedroom is a king-size room with its own en-suite shower room, so there is no small room to argue over. Three are on the ground floor and one is upstairs, and one has a freestanding stone bath. A fifth shower room, with a WC, is in the games barn, which means five bathrooms for eight people.

The long table

Kitchen, dining and living share one vaulted, open-plan room with doors onto the terrace. The dining table seats up to ten, so the whole group eats together every night with room left for the serving dishes. Outside there is a second table beside the outdoor kitchen, which has a gas barbecue and a sink.

The games barn

Across the courtyard, a second barn gives the group somewhere else to be: a pool table, air hockey, darts and a cinema-style projector, with seating and its own shower room. One half of the house can run a tournament while the other half finishes dinner.

Outside, and the private hot tub

The garden is enclosed and laid out over several terraces: a dining terrace, loungers, a fire pit, a children’s play area and a private hot tub. A travel cot and highchair are available if you are bringing little ones.

Good to know

There is off-road parking for four cars, and electric vehicle charging is available (additional fees apply). Towels are included. Arrival is from 16:00 and departure before 10:00. Sorry, no dogs. The nearest pub is 0.5 miles away, and the shops in Coleford town centre are 2.5 miles away.
