In the same village as the castle

The Walnut Barn is in Clearwell, the Forest of Dean village that is also home to Clearwell Castle. If you are marrying there, or you are one of the people the couple most wants close, the barn keeps eight of you under one roof in the same village as the celebration.

It is booked as a whole house, so the barn, the games barn, the terraces and the private hot tub are yours alone. Between the ceremony and the evening, or on the days either side, that gives you somewhere private to step back to: an enclosed garden, loungers and a fire pit, and nobody else’s timetable.

Room to get ready

Getting eight people ready on the same morning is usually a queue for the bathroom. Here there are four king-size bedrooms, each with its own shower room, and a fifth shower room in the games barn: five bathrooms in all, each with a shower, basin, WC and hairdryer. One bedroom also has a freestanding stone bath, for whoever needs ten quiet minutes most.

Three of the bedrooms are on the ground floor, which helps if anyone would rather avoid the stairs in their wedding shoes.

The night before

Arrival is from 16:00, so for a wedding day it is worth arriving the day before. That gives you an evening together first: dinner from the outdoor kitchen, the long table indoors that seats up to ten, and an early night, or not.

The morning after

When the music ends, the barn is in the same village. The next day nobody has to drive anywhere early. Breakfast can run late on the terrace, the hot tub is private, and the games barn across the courtyard is there for anyone who still has energy. Departure is before 10:00 on your last morning, so a longer stay gives the day after a proper chance.
